"Grow with the Flow" is a retro-inspired well-being toolkit designed to boost confidence and enhance daily self-care. By fostering social connections, promoting relaxation, and incorporating mindful rituals, it empowers users to embrace personal growth with ease and self-assurance.
This project aimed to design a well-being toolkit for Lush to distribute at music festivals, encouraging confidence and meaningful social connections through the power of self-care in all its forms.
Identifying and understanding the target audience was essential in shaping both the design and content of the toolkit, ensuring it was practical, engaging, and tailored to the needs of potential consumers.
To gain a deeper understanding of my audience, I developed three user personas, each representing distinct needs and interests. This approach allowed me to explore three unique design directions tailored to different festival-goers.
I also did research into the importance of self-care and its links to improved confidence and social relationships.
This research influenced my ideation, development and prototypes.
I drew significant inspiration from media influenced by the 1960s and 1970s, including Scooby-Doo, Austin Powers, and The Beatles' film Yellow Submarine.
I believed this theme appeals to younger audiences with its vibrant and playful aesthetic while also resonating with older generations by evoking a sense of nostalgia.
“Crack Your Cocoon” is inspired by “Chamberlain Coffees” rich colour palette and fun animal characters.
I felt this was a more sophisticated, yet still fun design choice and that it would appeal to a more mature user, but still appeals to a younger audience (such as “Chamberlain Coffee”).
This route was inspired and tailored to more shy individuals, representing the user with a clown fish, showing that despire being or feeling small, the can still stand out.
Design wise, this approach was inspired by stained glass windows, such as Charles Rennie Machintoschs’. Instead of flowers, I drew under the sea imagery, as I felt it would offer something refreshing in the summer heat for festival goers.
My toolkit is influenced by the Theory of Planned Behavior and Nudge Theory, designed to first attract users and encourage them to engage with the box, and then guide them through its elements to achieve its intended purpose.
By engaing with the toolkit I have created, the user will have a plethora of options for learnig how to improve their well-being. They have a range of alternative activities they can do or things they can reflect on to better themselves.
By creating prompts and products that are meant to serve the user in the long-term, their self-esteem and confidence will be maintained as long as these habits, and friendships are maintained too.
The ultimate goal is for users to grow and evolve through the experience, gaining fresh perspectives while enjoying a meaningful interaction with the toolkit.
“Grow with the Flow” aims to enhance well being and boost confidence, through fostering social connections, promoting relaxation, and incorporating self-care products into a daily routine.
The result will empower the user to bloom with self assurance and nurture their journey of personal growth, through a fun, retro-inspired toolkit.
